After allegations of physical abuse against players, the Chicago Blackhawks have suspended assistant coach Marc Crawford.

Marc Crawford is only one of several coaches in the NHL who currently see themselves confronted with allegations of physical or psychological abuse of players. In his case, former player Sean Avery said that Crawford kicked him in the back on the bench in 2006 after he took a penalty for too many players on the ice.

The now 58-year-old Crawford also coached the ZSC Lions from 2012 to 2016. Asked by the Tages-Anzeiger about the allegations, captain Patrick Geering said that the Canadian was a loud coach, "but I don't know anything about any assaults in our team." Forward Chris Baltisberger says that Crawford was "impulsive", but correct: "I was harshly criticized by him, but always correctly. And that helped my development," he states.
