It is, however, already clear that the CEO of EHC Biel is less than pleased with the authorities, as is reflected in his statement to Blick: "This is madness and pure panic-mongering. It is unacceptable that Federal Councilor Alain Berset says that major events work thanks to the concepts we have provided and then the canton goes and closes everything down!"
The SCL Tigers' president Peter Jakob agrees with Villard: "I find it completely out of place to solve this on a cantonal level. This is a question that cannot be left to the cantons. [...] It is not acceptable that a single canton now comes along and acts on its own."
Berset did, however, say in the Tagesschau (SRF) of October 18 that while the major events are under very strict restrictions, the cantons will have to decide whether they will be able to further allow them as they have to make sure that the contact tracing can still work.
The third National League team, SC Bern, has already issued an official statement, calling the canton's decision disproportional. They have also made clear that they will do everything in their power to reverse the canton's decision.
"We decided in an extraordinary meeting to host games with 1,000 spectators until the international break," Marc Lüthis tells Blick. "After that we will need a solution. Otherwise, it will be very difficult financially speaking."
