In the last weeks, there was always talk about increasing the import-player contingent to ten and getting rid of the status "playing with a Swiss players' license" a couple of foreign-born players are able to make use of.
As Denis Vaucher tells the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, they are now looking into another model: "We are currently looking into a gradual increase to eight. In return, we want to reduce the number of so-called licensed Swiss players. [...] Currently, an average of three foreign players per club play with this special status."
He also adds that this proposal envisages a transition period of five years. This means that eight foreigners per club would be possible from the 2025-26 season. However, the number of import players allowed will also depend on the number of teams in the league.
As Klaus Zaugg (Watson) reports, if the league were to comprise 14 teams, ten import players would be permitted as of the 2025-26 season.
Denis Vaucher also reveals to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung that they will decide on the overall strategic package, such as the organization of the league, financial fair play, the junior sections, the strategy for the import players, the agent system, and the admission modalities to the SA at the signing of the shareholder's agreement.
