What was reported by the Berner Zeitung has now been confirmed by the club: Franzén will not coach the SCL Tigers beyond this season.

Rikard Franzén's contract with the SCL Tigers is set to expire at the end of the season, and in light of the results obtained so far (last place in the National League standings considering points-per-game), it will not be renewed. Franzén will therefore stay only until the end of the 2020-21 season.

As was already reported by the Berner Zeitung and Blick, the successor of Franzén will be Jason O'Leary. The Canadian has signed a one-year deal with the Tigers that includes an option for an additional season. He will be assisted by Alexander Mellitzer, the head coach of the Tigers' U 20 team.

Jeff Tomlinson, Chris McSorley, Michael Liniger, or Lars Leuenberger were apparently also among the candidates but did not get the job. Last week, team manager Marc Eichmann confirmed that they expect to make a decision by the end of February and that other coaches had handed in their applications.

Franzén had been appointed as head coach of the Tigers for the current season back in May, after serving as an assistant coach for two years.
