Christoph Bertschy will hit the market at the end of the 2021-22 season. Teams have already shown interest in him, but the Lions want him to stay.

"Christoph is our No. 1 priority in the long term," Petr Svoboda tells 24 heures. "He is one of our best players, a potential leader of the future. We told him that we would be ready to discuss a contract extension with him as soon as he wants it."

Klaus Zaugg (Watson) recently reported that Lausanne HC is looking for a potential trading partner for Bertschy. However, Svoboda states that this would make no sense for Lausanne HC.

Bertschy confirms that Svoboda has talked to him about a contract extension, but says that he asked him for some time: "Right now, I'm preparing for the World Championship and for the moment I want to stay focused on this event only."

Zaugg also reported that Lausanne HC's head coach Craig MacTavish would soon be relieved of his duties. Svoboda was not willing to comment on that particular rumor.

He did, however, disclose that Mark Barberio requires shoulder surgery and will undergo the procedure on May 18. He should be ready for the start of the 2021-22 season.
