"Markus is a quality forward capable of playing both center and wing," HC Lugano's team manager Hnat Domenichelli says about his sixth import-player for the upcoming season. "We expect him to assume an important role within the team in the next two seasons."

For the past two seasons, Markus Granlund has played in the KHL for Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Overall, he appeared in 100 games for them, in which he recorded 99 points (34 goals). This past spring, he won the Olympic gold medal with Finland in Beijing.

In addition to goalie Mikko Koskinen and defender Oliwer Kaski, Granlund is the third Finn on Lugano's roster for the upcoming season. The other three import-players are the Canadian forwards Daniel Carr and Troy Josephs, as well as US-forward Mark Arcobello.
