As Baumgartner has already been playing in Switzerland since the 2012-2013 season, he owns a Swiss licence and does not counts as an import. This past season, the center suited up for Lausanne HC, scoring nine goals and six assists in 52 games. Prior to that, the 22-year-old was part of HC Davos' organisation.

Klaus Zaugg (Watson) already reported some weeks ago that Bern is interested in Baumgartner, but other teams also were eager to sign the forward. Apparently, the Bears made the race in the end.

SC Bern's team manager Andrew Ebbett states in a press release: "Benjamin Baumgartner is a young player with unbelievable high potential and skill-level. He will give us more options on the center position."

In other news, SC Bern announces the signing of Max Markowitz as an assistant coach. The 33-year-old US-American has been part of the Chinese womens national team recently and will mainly be responsible for video analysis for SC Bern.
