"The annual results have shocked the club," says Gian Kämpf, designated chairman of SCL's Board of Directors to the Berner Zeitung. The champions of the Swiss League have fallen victim to their own success: Due to the championship title, they had to pay additional bonuses to their players. Moreover, due to the uncertainty around the new arena, their sponsors and supporters were less willing to invest.
In order to get the club back on track, SC Langenthal will propose a capital cut at their general assembly on September 4 - for the third time after 2008 and 2013, the Berner Zeitung reports. The previous share capital of CHF 612,500 is supposed to be reduced to 122'500. If their shareholders accept this measure, the deficit of the past season should be evened out.
The promotion to the National League is no longer in SC Langenthal's plans for the upcoming years, but rather the strengthening of their youth department. "It is clear that this cannot cost as much as before," Angela Kölliger, member of the SCL's Board of Directors adds to the same source. The budget will thus be lower for the upcoming seasons.
