"The decision to retire from professional sports and take care of my family is incredibly difficult for me. I appreciate the club's understanding of this decision", Paré is quoted on EHC Visp's website. The struggles the 35-year-old has had with his injury and its effects ultimately led to the decision.
"The entire club environment did everything to get me back in shape to perform again after the injury. However, I had to realize that my body was not cooperating."
Born in Lemoyne, Quebec, the forward came up through the province's junior leagues. His first steps in professional hockey were as part of the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins in 2008. Five years later, he left North America. What followed was a mostly KHL-focussed career with some time in the Liiga and the National League (Genève-Servette HC and Lausanne HC). In 2021, the Canadian became a citizen of Belarus. With them, he participated in that year's World Championship and made more appearances for his new national team.
This past summer, Paré had joined EHC Visp.
