Bärtschi, as well as Justin Bailey, Guillaume Brisebois, Loui Eriksson, Tyler Graovac, Ashton Sautner, will now have to clear waivers before the NHL team can reassign them.
There is, however, still the option of the "taxi squad": each NHL team gets to keep four to six players after they clear waivers. Those players get a chance to play if a player cannot play due to the Covid-19 protocol.
Sven Bärtschi played almost the entire 2019-20 season for the Canucks' AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets. In 43 games for them, he recorded 13 goals and 33 assists.
