Nico Hischier has been nominated as the captain of the New Jersey Devils. They have not had a captain since Andy Greene was traded to the New York Islanders in February of last year. With Hischiers' nomination, the Devils are one of two NHL-franchises with a Swiss captain, with the Nashville Predators (Roman Josi) being the other one.

A member of the team since 2017, 22-year-old Hischier has made 214 games in the NHL so far, recording 52 goals and 84 assists. He has not suited up so far this season due to a leg injury and circumstances involving Covid-19, but he is available to the team again.
