According to the Tages-Anzeiger, an article in the new law, which will be debated by parliament in the coming weeks, should bring a solution.

Will the parliament grant financial aid for the hockey clubs?

The clubs have called for financial aid, but the Federal Council argued that there is currently no legal basis to make further concessions to the sports clubs. This, however, could change with the new Covid-law. The Health Commission of the Council of States is already negotiating a concrete formulation for a corresponding paragraph in the new law, the Tages-Anzeiger reports.

Next up will be the Council of States and the National Council, which both have to give their consent for the additional paragraph during the fall session, which is going to start next week. If this will be the case, the government could start to hand out emergency loans in just a few weeks. The exact conditions for that, however, have yet to be determined.

Currently, there is already a financial aid package available for the leagues an their clubs. The problem, however, is the joint liability. If one club applies for a loan and nevertheless goes bankrupt, all clubs would be responsible for paying back the money.
