The Swedish newspaper Värmlands Folkblad reported back in April that HC Davos had made an offer to the forward. However, he decided to return to Färjestad BK. He played for them for several years before he had left to join the Edmonton Oilers in the 2019-20 season.
Joakim Nygård was only able to play nine games for the Oilers this season. In the 2019-20 season, he recorded three goals and six assists in 33 games for them.
