Russian website Sport-Express reported earlier today that the Latvian international might leave SC Bern and return to the KHL.

However, asked by Latvian news outlet Sportacentrs.com, he denies the report, stating that it is not true, that he has no plans to return to the KHL, and that he is surprised to hear such a report.

Sport-Express wrote earlier today that the 34-year-old forward is in negotiations with an unnamed team from the KHL's Eastern Conference. Daugavins has one year left on his contract with SC Bern, but team manager Andrew Ebbett is currently trying to find a solution to get rid of him.

If Daugavins had actually considered a return to the KHL, where he already played for several years over the course of his career, this might have come with consequences. A new law in Latvia might have made it impossible for him to suit up for the Latvian national team in the future.

In the case of Miks Indrasis, who moved from EHC Biel to Spartak Moskva, the Secretary General of the Latvian Hockey Federation said that Indrasis will not be allowed to suit up for Latvia anymore: "Currently, the changes adopted in the sports law do not set a deadline for this rule, so this is a decision without an end date," he told the Latvian website Sportazinas.com.
