Swiss Ice Hockey Cup

Next year, there will be no more cup for National- and Swiss League teams. It will still be continued on the amateur level.

After Blick's report yesterday, Swiss Ice Hockey has now confirmed that the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup will be discontinued, at least for professional teams. On the amateur level, it is still going to exist, but the future format has not been determined yet.

As Swiss Ice Hockey writes, a season with (at least) 50 qualifying rounds, playoffs, as well as possibly Champions Hockey League, national team and Spengler Cup puts quite a burden on the players. "Creating a schedule that takes all dates into account and does not disadvantage any team is already a huge challenge nowadays", Swiss Ice Hockey-CEO Patrick Bloch states. The 2022 Olympic Games will make this even harder.
