Last night, the Boston Bruins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final, completing the series sweep. Following the loss, Canes' forward Nino Niederreiter let Swiss national team head coach Patrick Fischer know that he would be willing to play for his country at the IIHF World Championship. He will join the team on Monday.
Niederreiter is coming off of a surprising playoff run with Carolina, making it to the Conference Final as Wildcard seed, defeating the Washington Capitals, the defending Stanley Cup champion, in the first round and sweeping the New York Islanders in the second round.
