Even though his contract with the Mice was not set to expire for another year, the Italian wants to start a new phase of his professional life.

For Luca Zanatta it is time to leave Olten.

Luca Zanatta will not play for the EHC Olten next season. The club has granted the player's wish to cancel the contract, which was valid for another year. After taking part in the World Championship with Italy, the 28-year-old informed EHC Olten that he wanted to retire from professional hockey and return to his home country in order to start a new phase of his professional life. As the club reveals in the press release, a commitment to his home club in Cortina d'Ampezzo is conceivable. The Mice are already looking for a suitable replacement.

Luca Zanatta: "The decision was not easy for me, I owe a lot to ice hockey and the time in Olten was very beautiful and intense. But when the fire is no longer burning, then it is time to make room for others."

Thanks to his junior years in Lugano, Zanatta obtained a Swiss license. The defenseman played around 238 games in the Swiss League (89 points) from 2014 with Red Ice Martigny, and the last two seasons in Olten.
