The independence of the Swiss League from the National League and the low number of fans will cause a loss in the thousands for HCT.

"There will be a financial loss for HC Thurgau at the end of the fiscal year," says club president Thomas Müller to the Thurgauer Zeitung. "But we are all striving to minimize the loss. It will not be a threat to HC Thurgau" assures Müller.

"The budget of the squad will also be reduced, however, the number of foreigners will not be affected" continues Müller, who nonetheless explains that at the moment it is difficult to draw up a precise budget for the 2022-23 season because it is still uncertain how much money they will receive from the marketing and self-promotion of the Swiss League.

The main cause for the expected financial loss is, as explained by the Thurgauer Zeitung, the independence of the Swiss League as of next season: the Swiss League will lose around CHF 365,000.- per club and year. This money came from TV contracts and the sponsorship deal with Postfinance. At the moment, the Swiss League has not been able to communicate any sponsorship deal for the future.

In addition to that, also ticketing and catering revenues are low and, although Covid-19 related restrictions have been lifted, the club does not expect to be able to avoid an overall loss of several hundred thousand francs.
