National League

By hiring an additional foreigner, the National League team intends to boost internal competition.

Brian O'Neill

As Reto Kläy tells the Luzerner Zeitung, a lesson EV Zug has drawn from this past season is that they should go into the next one with seven imports. This would help boost internal competition, which was lacking in 2023-24 due to injuries. "We need to have a healthy competition to keep up with the best."

Regarding Brian O'Neill, the US-American's future is still unclear. As Kläy notes, the forward would like to stay, but in case he gets an offer from another club, Zug would not prevent him from taking it. "There is a transparent exchange between Brian and myself", the team manager comments.

Kläy also states that letting go of players with an ongoing contract is not a thing they would not consider. "We have to define the squad in such a way that all players identify with our values. We may even have to decide against a player."
