Timo Meier only needed two periods in the game against the LA Kings to turn himself into the player who scored the most goals in one game in the history of the San Jose Sharks. After a hat trick in the first, the NHL All-Star scored another two in the second period.
In the past 25 years only five players, including Meier, managed to score five goals in a single NHL game. The most recent was Mika Zibanejad on March 5, 2020. Others were Patrik Laine, Johan Franzen, and Marian Gaborik.
Also the Minnesota Wild's Kevin Fiala had a night to remember. His goal against the Colorado Avalanche was his 100th NHL career goal. He is the fourth Swiss player to reach this mark, in addition to Timo Meier, Nino Niederreiter, and Roman Josi.
