Fans who will not comply with the protective regulations will have to deal with a harsh punishment.

Attendance limit to be upheld in Swiss arenas?

The NZZ am Sonntag has gained access to the league's sixteen-page concept. It contains the following rules: mask requirement in the arena, no standing room, guest sectors will be closed, and fan choreographies which would cover an entire sector will be prohibited.

There will also be severe punishments for people who spit at others or intentionally cough on others: they will receive a two-year nationwide stadium ban. Also, if people attend a game, who know that they have tested positive for Covid-19, they will have to deal with a three-year arena ban.

As Denis Vaucher, Director of National League & Swiss League, confirms, that this is indeed the framework of the league. However, a individual concept for each arena is currently also being prepared.

The federal council will decide on Wednesday whether they will uphold the current 1,000 spectator limit or make alterations to the current regulations. The hockey teams have made clear in the last couple of weeks that they would not survive this season, if the threshold will be upheld without the possibility to add more spectators if a proper concept is in place.

It remains to be seen whether the concepts will prove to be enough to convince the authorities to alter the current regulations. Federal Councillor Alain Berset only had this to say in today's NZZ am Sonntag when asked about the 1,000 attendance limit: "One thing already seems clear to me: there will be no return to the normality of December 2019. There are no full stadiums without restrictions. The rules will depend on the type of event: A sales fair lasting several days is different from a concert or a football match where thousands gather for a few hours."
